TYRE, Lebanon: The Italian contingent serving as part of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon organized Monday a day of environmental activism in the area surrounding the village of Shamaa, near the southern coastal city of Tyre to mark New Year.

According to the NNA, the commander of UNIFIL’s Sector West, General Carlo Lamanna, and members of the Italian contingent participated in the environmental campaign which included cleaning main public roads and the areas neighboring the contingent’s headquarters.

Italian peacekeepers were seen carrying red garbage bags and picking trash in the Shamaa’ surroundings.

The initiative is part of a series of projects that the Italian contingent carries out in its area of operations to preserve the environment and raise awareness on the correct use of vital resources.
