BETHLEHEM, May 4, 2017 (WAFA) – Ceremonies were held on Thursday marking the completion of the installation of a solar panel system in al-Rawaein Bedouin community in the Bethlehem government funded by the government of Japan, according to a press release.

Japan’s Representative to Palestine, Takeshi Okubo, visited al-Rawaein to celebrate the completion of the project funded through Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP).

The grant of $81,600 was extended to the Agricultural Society for the Wall Affected “SAMED” to install the solar panel system. It aims to improve and benefit the life environment and school environment of all residents in the al-Rawaein Bedouin community which has about 200 residents (40 households), said the press release by the Japan Representative Office in Ramallah.

In his speech, Okubo emphasized Japan’s firm commitment of supporting Palestinian people from human security perspective as well as the importance of implementing social and economic development projects needed for Palestinian communities.

Since 1993 the government of Japan has extended its official development assistance to approximately $1.8 billion, to the Palestinians. GGP projects have been formulated in collaboration with the Palestinian Authority through Ministry of Finance and Planning since 2010.
