RAMALLAH, Monday, October 28, 2019 (WAFA) – Masayuki Magoshi, Ambassador for the Palestinian Affairs and Representative of Japan to Palestine, visited Bethlehem Governorate today to celebrate the completion of cistern project funded by the Government of Japan through Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) with the presence of Bethlehem Governor Kamel Hmeid.

According to a press release, a grant of $86,000 was extended to Palestinian Hydrology Group to achieve an appropriate educational environment for students. Five rain water harvesting cisterns were constructed to provide better quality water and overcome the issue of water shortage to 2646 students in seven schools in Bethlehem and Hebron governorates.

In his speech, Magoshi emphasized Japan’s firm commitment of supporting Palestinian people from human security perspective as well as the importance of implementing social and economic development projects needed for Palestinian communities.

Since 1993 the Government of Japan has extended its official development assistance to approximately $1.9 billion to the Palestinians. GGP projects have been formulated in collaboration with the Palestinian Authority through Ministry of Finance and Planning since 2010.
