ZARQA/IRBID — Zarqa’s water crisis will be resolved after 400 cubic metres of water are pumped from Al Azraq wells to the governorate, starting Sunday, Governor Sameh Majali said on Saturday.

During a visit to several areas in Zarqa, Majali urged the Zarqa Water Directorate not to neglect any complaints regarding water distribution.

The governor’s tour followed demonstrations in different parts of the governorate as a result of water disruptions in their areas.

In Irbid Governorate on Friday, Kafr Youba residents demonstrated against a three-month water disruption.

Residents complained that they are forced to buy water, pointing out that a three-square-metre tank is sold for JD30, which poses a financial burden on them.

Kafr Youba is home to around 20,000 residents.

Also in Irbid, Hanina residents on Saturday complained about frequent cuts in the water supply. Residents of the area, north of Irbid, said weekly water deliveries under the distribution programme were irregular.
