SIDON, Lebanon: Future Bloc MP Bahia Hariri saluted the Sidon municipality Sunday for a project to eliminate a hazardous landfill in the city, during an event to celebrate student artistic projects.

Hariri’s comments were made during a ceremony awarding certificates of excellence to students attending public and private schools in Sidon, after they participated in an event at the exhibition of artist Fouad Jawhar in Beirut. During the event, students painted images inspired by Jawhar’s work.

Hariri distributed the certificates at her residence in Majdalyoun and the event was attended by Sidon’s Mayor Mohammad Saudi, Jawhar and several school principals and art teachers.

Hariri noted that such activities reveal each student’s creative capabilities and said “our mission is to discover these talents.”

She added: “We have launched a slogan for the Sidon school board, ‘Sidon is an eco-friendly city,’ and we salute Mayor Mohammad Saudi for rescuing the city from its environmental woes, from which it suffered for many years.”

She said the landfill would be converted into a garden, to become “a colorful location.”
