AMMAN — The Aqaba Water Company (AWC) on Monday inaugurated the Rehabilitation of Al Alameya Sewer Project with support from the USAID, according to a US embassy statement.

Construction of the $1.73 million project was co-financed by USAID (85 per cent) and the AWC (15 per cent).

“The work replaced a deteriorated system that suffered from continuous blockages,” the statement said.

The project also included the installation of 25 kilometres of sewer pipelines and 2,100 manholes.

The project “will save maintenance costs and improve the quality of life and environmental health of approximately 10,000 people living in the Al Alameya neighbourhood” in Aqaba, according to the statement.
