AMMAN — Ministry of Environment on Tuesday launched an initiative under the slogan “Keep your bag in your car”, which includes distributing car trash bags in all governorates to discourage drivers and passengers from throwing garbage randomly, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The ministry stated that the campaign comes in the context of implementing the national plan for environmental awareness launched in celebration of the Kingdom’s centenary.

Environment Minister Nabil Masarweh said that environmental issues are among the national priorities, which necessitate the integration of the environmental aspect in the Kingdom’s economic, cultural and social development plans.

He pointed out that under this campaign, the ministry, along with partners and stakeholders, will attempt to raise awareness pertaining to the various harmful effects of littering and the relevant environmental laws and regulations targeting litterers in Jordan.

The ministry will also continuously utilise broadcasts, advertisements and local media messages to familiarise the public with the repercussions of the said issues.

A number of officials at environmental directorates in the Kingdom voiced their support towards this initiative, stressing its significance especially in decreasing the usage of non-biodegradable garbage bags and fostering an environmentally friendly culture among the Jordanian society.

The distribution of bags and brochures was organised in line with the current health measures taken to tackle the spread of the coronavirus pandemic, Petra reported.
