BEIRUT: The Lebanese Army backed by firefighters succeeded in extinguishing fires that erupted across the country Wednesday, the Army said in a statement Thursday.

The statement said that Lebanese troops in coordination with Civil Defense volunteers put out fires in the southern areas of Zawtar Sharqieh, Yohmor, Kfar Jouz, Toul, Kfour, Bint Jbeil, Nabatieh, Fawqa, and Kfar Roummane.

They also doused fires in the northern Lebanese towns of Brahlin and Qamoua, as well as the Mount Lebanon towns of Wardanieh, Sharoun, and Ghaboun.

The Army said the fires destroyed 435 acres of fruit trees and grassland. No casualties were reported.
