AMMAN — Water Authority of Jordan security personnel have detained several people who attempted to steal the main water pumps, electric lines and control panels at a water well complex in Karak, Water Ministry Spokesperson Omar Salameh said in a statement on Thursday.

Salameh said stealing electricity control cables will disrupt pumping and prevent water from reaching citizens.

The estimated cost of violations on water wells last year was more than JD3 million, he said, noting that the attacks disrupted pumping from a number of water resources.
