BEIRUT: The average rate of power cuts outside the capital stood at over 12 hours a day in June, according to the Energy Ministry. In a statement issued Friday, the ministry said that while Beirut residents experienced an average of three hours a day of power cuts, the average elsewhere was 370 hours for the month. The ministry also issued the average per hour fees to be charged by private generator owners, setting them at LL380 for 5 amperes, and LL760 for 10 amperes. The ministry’s calculations are used by local officials to set the fees that generator owners may charge their subscribers. A generator owner contacted by The Daily Star said he expected a rise in June prices due to the significant increase in the hours of power cuts, although diesel prices had dipped slightly.
