The Nile Delta is the world’s second place threatened to sink

Mahmoud Samy, Deputy Assistant Foreign Minister for the Environment and Sustainable Development, said the Nile Delta is the world’s second place most threatened to sink, adding that Egypt is keen to face climate change with technology.
He told the Middle East News Agency on the sidelines of a workshop to reduce emissions that the sectors that should work on reducing are the energy, electricity and transport sectors.
He added that the workshop was held in preparation for the Paris Climate Change Conference in November.

Climate change may cause Egypt US$50 bn a year by 2060

The Arab Water Council discussed the results of some of the social and economic studies on the impact of climate change on Egypt, which could cause a loss up to US$50 billion a year by 2060, up to about 6 percent of the gross national product, if necessary water and agriculture decisions are not taken.
The water and agricultural sectors are the most vulnerable to climate change in Egypt.
The results of the studies, which were presented at a meeting on climate change and water on the sidelines of the World Water Forum meetings, showed that the Egyptian cotton crop will be more resilient to climate changes due to its ability to withstand high temperatures and lack of water and salinity.
Participants in the meeting agreed for to the need to apply “climate smart” techniques for water management and agriculture, taking into account the effects of projected climate change.

Environment Minister calls for unified African position at Paris Climate Change Conference

Environment Minister Khaled Fahmy has called for a unified and supportive African position in the negotiations of the Paris Climate Change Conference this year.
He said that African countries will continue to move together, taking into account the mitigation of the negative effects of climate change on the African continent.
He also said that Egypt in its capacity as president of the African Ministerial Conference will support the continent to reach a successful outcome in Paris and beyond.
He added that the main regional program adopted by the African Ministerial Conference works on a sustainable land management, the desertification, the biodiversity and the adaptation of ecosystems to climate change.
