In a joint venture with Masdar and other international companies, the first utility scale wind power project in the Middle East was inaugurated last Thursday by King Abdullah II Ibn Al Hussain of Jordan.
The UAE had pledged to assist other developing nations in their quest for increasing dependence on renewable energy during the recently concluded UN Climate Change Conference (COP21).
The 117 megawatt installation, which will provide three per cent of Jordan’s total energy needs, will create enough electricity to power 83,000 homes while reducing the country’s emissions by 235,000 tonnes annually, according to Masdar. (Gulf News)
