AMMAN — The Water Ministry said on Wednesday it has launched a water conservation awareness campaign in cooperation with Oxfam.

In coordination with the Education Ministry, training sessions will be held in schools across Jordan to teach children about water efficiency and water-saving devices, the Water Ministry said in a statement. Oxfam Director Marta Rodriguez said in the statement that Jordan’s low water availability requires efforts to sustain the supply.

The Water Ministry has been working with Oxfam and the Food and Agricultural Organisation on water conservation projects since April 2015. So far, JD706,000 has been allocated to rehabilitate wells in areas populated by Syrian refugees, and winter and hygiene kits have been distributed to refugee camps, the statement said.

The Water Ministry has carried out training at mosques across Jordan to teach clerics about water efficiency, according to the ministry’s spokesperson, Omar Salameh.
