AMMAN — A team of volunteers on Saturday organised a cleaning day at the Dibbeen forest, with the participation of 122 orphan girls from Jerash and Sakib areas, a Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) statement said.

The event was conducted by KOICA Jordan Office and the KOICA Alumni Association of Jordan (KAAJ) to educate young children on the importance of maintaining a clean, green environment.

Following the fire that occurred in the Dibbeen forest last week, engulfing trees over a 10-dunnum area, this activity played a “vital role” in helping to raise the awareness of the future generation on preserving the natural habitats of Jordan by maintaining a clean environment, according to the statement.

A lecture was given by Saddam Al Wdhan from the Ministry of Environment, who presented basic information on the environment and methods of recycling.

During the activity, the participants collected the waste dumped by previous visitors at the forest.

KAAJ was founded in 2008, as a platform for participants of KOICA-sponsored fellowship and training programmes to share knowledge and exchange experience. KAAJ holds environment-concerned activities and cultural events to share more about the Korean culture to Jordan, the statement said.

It is the second cleaning activity organised by the association this year. A cleaning day was held at the King of Bahrain Forest in May,

According to the statement, KAAJ hopes, through these activities, to strengthen society’s realisation on the importance of maintaining Jordan’s inviting, clean natural scene.
