AMMAN — The capital’s population stands at 4 million people, up by 1.5 million people compared to 10 years ago, creating greater pressures and challenges for the Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) to provide better infrastructure, Deputy Amman Mayor Hazem Neimat said on Tuesday.
During a workshop, titled “strategy planning for local economic development”, Neimat said that these challenges hinder development and job creation efforts, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
The workshop, organised by the Centre for Mediterranean Integration in partnership with the World Bank and other international organisations, aimed at enhancing economic planning especially for communities hosting refugees.
The workshop targets 45,000 employees and representatives of local governments in Jordan, Lebanon, Palestine, Turkey and Iraq.
