Environment Minister Fadi Jreissati held a meeting at the ministry’s premises in the presence of Metn lawmakers where discussions tackled measures to avoid a garbage crisis as the Jdeideh-Bourj Hammoud landfill is nearing full capacity, the National News Agency reported on Monday.

The meeting was held in the presence of MPs Hagop Pakradounian, Eddy Abillama, Elias Hankash, Eddy Maalouf and a representative of the municipalities union.

The interlocutors discussed the environmental situation in the Metn area and weighed the options in order to avoid a new garbage crisis as the landfill reaches full capacity in July.

A suggestion to expand the landfill was met with reservation.
