AMMAN — Mahmoud Qudah Park in East Amman was inaugurated on Thursday following its rehabilitation as part of the “Improving Living Conditions in Disadvantaged Areas in Amman through the Implementation of Green Infrastructure” (ILCA) project.
The ILCA project was implemented by the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), according to a GIZ statement.
Assistant Secretary General for Municipal Affairs at the Ministry of Environment Raed Bani Hani, Technical Manager for Environmental Affairs at the Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) Bassam Al Abdallat, Chargé d’Affaires at the German embassy Florian Reindel and GIZ Jordan Country Director Elisabeth Girrbach attended the event.
The park is the third of three public space rehabilitation projects that the ILCA project has completed to create climate-sensitive and accessible public spaces.
The ILCA project represents the GIZ’s commitment to support Jordan’s capabilities to adapt to the effects of climate change and meet its international climate-related commitments, read the statement.
Reindel emphasised the importance of climate change mitigation in Germany’s international cooperation efforts, citing the recent natural disasters around the world as examples that highlight the urgency of the situation.
Girrbach expressed the importance of creating accessible public spaces that consider everyone’s needs, especially in East Amman. She added that the high population densities and urban areas should encourage the preservation of green areas and spaces resilient to climate change.
