AMMAN — Minister of Public Works and Housing Yahya Kisbi on Tuesday participated in the 12th Bosphorus Summit in Istanbul, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported. 

In his speech, Kisbi stressed that the engineering sector plays a key role in the implementation and success of most of the sustainable development goals, especially those related to facing climate change, sustainable cities and economic growth.

He indicated that the ministry places importance on the use of environmentally friendly materials in all its projects to reduce the effects of pollution.

The minister highlighted that all Jordanian institutions seek to reduce its effects, calling for intensifying global efforts to use environmentally friendly materials in construction projects to combat climate change.

He pointed out that the ministry is currently supervising the establishment of an ecological park project, which comes as a translation to Royal directives in regard to preserving the environment and confronting climate change.

Noting that the ratio of engineers in Jordan to the population is one of the highest in the world, he added that the engineering sector costintutes 11 per cent of the workforce in the Kingdom.

Thanking the International Cooperation Platform (ICP) for organising the summit, he praised the depth of Jordanian-Turkish relations, expressing aspiration to bolster them in various fields to serve the interests of the two countries.

The two-day event, kicked off on Monday under the title “Challenges for a Better World,” witnessed the participation of top officials, experts and academics discussing post-COVID-19 conditions, foreign economic relations, investing in Islamic finance, climate change and cyber security.
