AMMAN — The Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry is considering proposals by several renewable energy companies that responded to a letter from the ministry to re-negotiate the prices of power generated from their projects, Energy Minister Saleh Kharabsheh said on Thursday.
Kharabsheh said that the ministry had organised several meetings with these companies, which are responsible for 29 projects, during which the ministry stressed that re-negotiating prices is among reform procedures to reduce power system costs to “realise equity” between the companies and the National Electric Power Company (NEPCO), according to a ministry statement.
The minister praised the contribution of private sector companies and their cooperation with the ministry and NEPCO in achieving “remarkable” successes, where the percentage of power generated from renewable energy resources reached 26 per cent by the end of 2021.
