AMMAN — The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources on Sunday urged the public to take advantage of its solar cells and heaters programme, which subsidises 30 per cent of the cost for households to help them ease the burden of electricity bills.

A ministry statement revealed that the technical specifications and requirements set out in the programme, which renewable energy companies must comply with when providing services, are available via https://solarenergy.gov.jo.

The ministry noted that the maximum capacity for supported renewable energy systems, according to the programme’s eligibility criteria, is 3.6 kilowatts.

Currently, there are some 39,000 such systems operated by the three electricity distribution companies, of which 27,285 systems have a capacity of 3.6 kilowatts.

The ministry also urged citizens to submit applications and invest in solar energy for electricity generation and water heating, to maintain market dynamism, enhance the competitiveness of companies operating in the sector, preserve existing jobs and create new opportunities, and increase the volume of investment in this vital sector.
