Economy minister urges end to waste dumping at Beirut Port
Economy Minister Alain Hakim Friday toured the Beirut Port to voice his objection to using lots surrounding it to dump trash.”There’s no solution in sight to end dumping waste near vital facilities … Trash is accumulating at the doors of one of the most important mills in Beirut,” Hakim told reporters.He called on the state to reuse landfills, or to export waste abroad as temporary solutions to the trash crisis.The government had not agreed upon an alternative waste solution, causing trash to pile up across Beirut and Mount Lebanon streets. –
