AMMAN — The government will seize the assets of 1,829 water subscribers in the northern region if they fail to pay their bills within 60 days, an official said on Saturday.
The names of water subscribers with outstanding bills have been published in the Official Gazette, an official at the Ministry of Water and Irrigation told The Jordan Times, noting that the collective size of their unpaid water bills stands at JD3.2 million.
“The moveable and non-moveable assets of 300 subscribers in the north have already been seized as the cost of their unpaid water bills reached JD304,000,” the official said.
The Yarmouk Water Company, which manages water and wastewater services in the northern governorates of Jerash, Irbid, Ajloun and Mafraq, has started a “strict campaign” against subscribers who have unpaid water bills, the ministry employee said.
The Department of Land and Survey, all the banks, the Driver and Motor Vehicle Licensing Department, the Income and Sales Tax Department and other government agencies have all been notified to place a notice that the assets of subscribers with unpaid water bills are seized.
“The cost of the outstanding bills in the north totals JD38 million. The Yarmouk Water Company is collecting its due payments from subscribers to be able to continue operating and pay its financial obligations,” the official added.
