The American University in Cairo (AUC) was the only higher education institution outside of United States and Canada, to be listed by the Princeton Review’s 2017 Green Colleges Guide, for the third year in a row, cementing its status among the most environmentally-friendly ‘green’ colleges worldwide.
The Princeton Review Guide listed 375 out of 629 colleges, which demonstrated commitment to the environment and sustainability. “We strongly recommend The American University in Cairo and other fine colleges in this guide to the many environmentally-minded students who seek to study and live at green colleges,” said the Princeton Review’s Chief Editor Robert Franek.
The guide recognized the AUC as being “at the forefront of the sustainability movement in the region.” It gave the University a top Green Rating score based on the University’s sustainability-related policies, practices, and programs.
The AUC’s sustainability officer, Yasmin Mansur, was pleased and believed that that recognition demonstrated the university’s role as a global and regional model in terms of sustainability.
Mansur added that the AUC applied various ‘green’ policies and programs which include a carpool program, a condensed work-week option for employees, campus shuttle services, incentives encouraging employees to live within a close proximity to the campus, reduced parking fees for carpoolers, a bicycle promotion plan, and an employee telecommuting program.
