AMMAN — An exhibition on “Water in the Middle East and North Africa [MENA]” was opened at The Roman Theatre in Amman on Monday, sponsored by the Agence Française de Développement (AFD), the Greater Amman Municipality and the Ministry of Water and Irrigation.
Water and Irrigation Minister Raed Abul Saud said that the ministry’s efforts, coordinated with partners, are currently focused on expanding the use of sustainable energy in all water facilities through the implementation of the national strategy of water, which seeks to improve water supply and related services, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
Abul Saud appreciated France’s support during the last years to boost the abilities of the water sectors in the fields of operations and industry.
French Ambassador to Jordan David Bertolotti said that the exhibition aims to raise awareness among the Jordanian public about the water shortage challenges in the MENA region, noting that this region has only 1 per cent of the world’s freshwater.
