AMMAN (Petra) – Local and international companies have started to develop the first electric charging plant using solar power. The project, to be built in cooperation with El Hassan Science City and financed by the USAID, seeks to provide clean energy resources to charge electric vehicles to help the Kingdom reduce carbon dioxide emissions and preserve the environment. According to a statement issued by the city, the scheme also seeks to develop the technology sector in the Kingdom through training enginee?s working for a Jordanian company that is working on the project, which is the first of its kind worldwide. Jordan was selected to host the project due to the abundance of renewable energy resources in the Kingdom as well as its government policies, which seek to develop public transportation that depend on renewable energy. Electric vehicles and charging stations will also promote environmental tourism, the statement said. The city will provide companies working in the project with the needed technical as?istance. According to the statement, the government is studying a decision to purchase 300 cars manufactured by Nissan Motors for the use of public agencies such as the Greater Amman Municipality.
