RAMALLAH, March 15, 2010(WAFA)-Local in a workshop participants agreed that ending the Israeli occupation of will make the future Palestinian state contribute in the international endeavors on solving global warming problem.
The Participants were answering a question raised by Representative of Denmark to the Palestinian Authority Lars Adam Rehof about if the political solution and ending the Israeli occupation would help the Palestinians in solving the water and climate change issues , in a work shop organized in Ramallah by the World Bank on Monday in collaboration with the Environment Quality Authority entitled: Development and climate change –global warming- and the mechanism to reduce it.
They called on international community to make real decision instead of theoretical ones regarding the Israeli violations of Palestinian water and controlling the carbon that comes from producing electricity in Israel.
They recommend that the international community should work in ending occupation in order to let Palestine do its effective role in the arena regionally and internationally.
The Deputy Director General of environmental resource in the Environmental Quality Authority Nedal Bader said: The poor are suffering as the developing countries are hardest hit by 80%, and high-income countries should handle the problem and lead the world, two degrees Celsius the increase in global temperatures since the age of before the Industrial Revolution.
Director of water resources in Palestinian Water Authority Deeb Abdelghafar saw that , the Israeli violations of Palestinian water and controlling electricity are the main cause of Palestinian suffering due to lack of water.
Manager of the World Bank Central Water Unit Julia Buncknall said, “If we act now, and cooperation to work together and work in a different way with this phenomenon in the world, we will help to create the momentum needed to be resolved,” indicating ‘What is needed is funding for the mitigation and adaptation to global investment to resolve and reconcile equity and justice on the one hand and efficiency on the other.”
In his turn, the Director of Water and Environmental Development organization (WEDO) Nader Khateeb , saw that, continued global warming will lead to increased migration, as well as the continuing shortage of water, leading to shortage in agriculture, not to mention the growing economic crisis in the world.
Speakers stressed that the inertia in the climate system, and the inertia in the existing environment will make worse the problem in addition to inertia in the behavior of individuals and institutions in the world.
