GAZA, March 27, 2012 (WAFA) – The Jeddah, Saudi Arabia-based Islamic Development Bank (IDB) Tuesday signed a number of aid agreements worth a total of $52 million to support several projects in different sectors in Gaza, according to a statement issued by IDB.
It said $13 million would go for supporting the reconstruction of 250 housing units and the restoration of about 150 houses for the poor and the disabled.
A little more than $15 million would go for supporting Gaza’s municipal sector, including the maintenance of several streets and roads, the building of the main Wadi Gaza bridge, the repair and maintenance of solid waste collection equipments, and the building of a solid waste treatment plant in Khan Younis.
In terms of the education sector, a total amount of $9.5 million would go for supporting the rehabilitation works of facilities and buildings of universities and the improvement of public schools facilities, including the equipping and furnishing of 12 schools and the building of five public schools.
As for the health sector, a total amount of $5 million will be allocated to support the building of a public children hospital in central Gaza and the reconstruction of Rafah health center.
The agreement will also support the water and wastewater sectors with a total amount of $3 million, including the building of a new water tank with a capacity of 4000 cubic meters and the rehabilitation and development of sewage pumps and water wells.
It also supports the social sector with a total amount of $1.8 million.
IDB is the coordinator for the Program of the Gulf Cooperation Council for the Reconstruction of Gaza.
