AMMAN — A few residents of Karak, 140km south of the capital, on Monday blocked a street and burned tyres in protest against water supply cuts.
The protesters, who said that they had not received water in weeks, also burned garbage containers, according to eyewitnesses.
Public Security Department Spokesperson Lt. Col. Mohammad Khatib said a handful of residents protested for half-an-hour before they left. Khatib told The Jordan Times that no violence occurred.
The Ministry of Water and Irrigation said in a recent statement that it seeks to improve the water supply across the country, but the lack of financing for projects is a main challenge.
