RAMALLAH, February 4, 2013 (WAFA) – The Japanese development agency, JICA, and the Ministry of Local Government signed Monday a $10 million agreement on developing solid waste treatment plants in the West Bank, according to a Local Government statement.

The three-part agreement calls for purchasing special tools to operate solid waste plants, expanding the Jericho solid waste plant by adding to it a section to separate waste products, and the third part includes capacity building and increasing social awareness mainly in recycling and other issues related to solid waste.

The project starts in September and ends in July 2014 and it is a continuation of a project the two sides had earlier agreed on.

Minister of Local Government Khaled Qawasmi thanked Japan for its support of Palestinian projects, particularly its contribution to the solid waste treatment program.
