AMMAN — The Education Ministry and the Electricity Distribution Company (EDCO) on Tuesday signed a renewable energy agreement, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported. The ministry will install solar panels connected to the grid, and the value of electricity supplied to the grid by the panels will be deducted from the ministry’s power bills.
The agreement was signed between EDCO Director General Hassan Thneibat and the ministry’s Secretary General for Financial and Administrative Affairs Sami Salaitah. Under the agreement, electricity will be supplied to 44 schools in Karak, Tafileh and Maan.
EDCO Spokesperson Sami Zawatin said that the solar energy project is being implemented under a Royal initiative to keep public schools warm during winter by using renewable energy.
