Water Minister Mohammad Najjar signs agreements for the rehabilitation of Irbid’s water networks on Monday (Petra photo)

AMMAN — Water Minister Mohammad Najjar on Monday approved agreements worth 23.596 million euros related to the rehabilitation of Irbid’s water networks.

Funded by the EU, German Development Bank (KfW) and the French Development Agency (AFD), the agreements are meant to maintain the sustainability of water sources and improve water operating systems in the northern region.

The ceremony was attended by Ambassador of the European Union (EU) Maria Hadjitheodosiou, Head of the AFD Jordan Office Laurent Duriez, Director of the KfW Jordan Office Mark Schwiete, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Najjar expressed appreciation for the EU, Germany and France for their “unceasing support” for the ministry’s efforts to improve water and sanitation networks.

He added that the implementation of the first phase of the project aims to improve Irbid’s water networks and service provision through the construction of water projects. 

A new package worth 43.6 million euros is expected to be signed in early 2022, the minister said.

Hadjitheodosiou stressed that the EU will continue to support the Kingdom’s water sector to overcome all challenges to help citizens, refugees and host communities.
