AMMAN — The Sustainable Energy and Economic Development in Jordan Project (SEED), funded by Global Affairs Canada (GAC) and the Jordanian government implemented by Cowater International, was recognised for its contributions to supporting energy efficiency and renewable energy (EE&RE) solutions in Jordan.

SEED aims to promote sustainable and inclusive economic growth in the Jordan Valley and Ajloun regions through the uptake of low-carbon renewable energy technologies, according to a statement made available to The Jordan Times.

SEED’s efforts to advance sustainable energy initiatives in Jordan received three awards from the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE). The awards were presented for the following achievements, as part of AEE’s Regional Awards 2021 contest:

Middle East Region Energy Project of the Year Award for 2021

Middle East Region Innovative Energy Project of the Year Award for 2021

Middle East Region Energy Innovator of the Year Award for 2021

“Energy efficiency and renewable energy investments are critical to improving the livelihoods of Jordanians and boosting the competitiveness of local entrepreneurs. We are delighted that our SEED project team’s efforts in supporting Jordan’s sustainable development are being internationally recognised and celebrated, and we look forward to continuing our work in supporting Jordan’s energy sector priorities,” said David Baron, President and CEO of Cowater International.

In addition to supporting renewable energy solutions for Jordanian households, SEED was celebrated for powering the historical Ajloun Castle using clean energy.

Moreover, AEE recognized Mohammad Ramadan, the project’s team leader, for his role in advancing sustainable energy solutions in the country.

AEE is an international non-profit professional society, whose mission is to promote the scientific and educational interests of those engaged in the energy industry and to foster action for Sustainable Development. The AEE Regional Awards will be presented in October, at the 2021 AEE World Energy Conference & Expo in New Orleans, the US.

SEED’s activities included raising the awareness of 83,000 Jordanian citizens on EE&RE systems, financing the installation of 3,000 EE&RE systems including solar photovoltaic and solar water heating systems and retrofitting 25,000 energy-saving LED lighting units in households, according to the statement.
