Over the years, EPA’s environmental cooperation in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) has focused on capacity building regarding environmental governance, water pollution and water security, clean fuels vehicles, and pollution prevention. Our most recent activities have focused on solid waste management, public participation, and crisis communication in environmental decision-making. Our efforts in the region have benefited the global environment and built partnership with key countries in MENA and a variety of stakeholders.

EPA works with many partners to ensure capacity building and efficient, successful programs. Specifically, EPA cooperation with Morocco has supported implementation of the U.S. Free Trade Agreement with Morocco, currently the only country in Africa with such an agreement. As an environmental partner since 1991, EPA and Israel engage in scientific and technical collaboration to promote environmental protection. Learn more about our work in these countries:

Egypt
November 2022: The Minister of Environment of the Arab Republic of Egypt Dr. Yasmine Fouad met with United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)Administrator Michael S. Regan on November 10, 2022, during the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Conference of the Parties 27 (COP27) hosted by the government of Egypt in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt.

Jordan
