The Arab League and the United Nations (UN) have agreed to develop programmes of joint activities between the two sides in the field of combating climate change, which will be implemented in the Arab region in the coming period.
This came in a statement issued on Tuesday by the General Secretariat of the Arab League at the end of the 15th meeting of cooperation between the pan-Arab bloc and the UN on climate change, which was held over two days at the headquarters of the League under the title “Cooperation in the fight against climate change.”
The meeting is in implementation of the resolution of the 158th Arab League summit at the ministerial level and the resolution of the 77th session of the UN General Assembly, which was attended by 29 representatives of Arab organizations and UN agencies, in addition to the various sectors of the two organizations and the UN liaison office to the AL in Cairo, the statement said.
Participants discussed the outcomes of the COP27 conference in Sharm El-Sheikh, the synergy between the three international conventions on climate change, water and food security and energy, and their implications for the Arab region, disaster reduction and early warning, climate security and the sustainability of peace, the statement added.
